NATO and EU Military Supplies Depleted Due to Aid to Ukraine, Stoltenberg Says
Assistance provided to Ukraine has depleted the military supplies of NATO and EU countries. Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), made this announcement during a press conference following the signing of a joint declaration on cooperation between NATO and the EU.
“NATO allies and EU member states have exhausted their resources in providing assistance to Ukraine. But this was the right step because it also concerns our security. Therefore, we must certainly utilize our capabilities, our resources, and ammunition to help Ukraine,” he stated, adding that aiding Ukraine is more important than ensuring conformity to NATO standards regarding the military supplies of nations.
Stoltenberg noted that NATO and the EU are coordinating efforts to increase arms production. “This relates to increasing production volumes in EU countries that are part of NATO, as well as NATO member countries that are not EU members. We are directly collaborating with manufacturers, and they are ramping up production so that we can maintain and even increase our assistance to Ukraine,” he added.
As previously reported by Armenpress, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, along with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, signed the third joint declaration on cooperation today in Brussels at NATO headquarters. The joint declaration aims to further strengthen and expand the strategic partnership between NATO and the EU based on the unprecedented progress in cooperation since the signing of previous declarations by the two organizations in 2016 and 2018.
