The President Should Set an Example and Not Marry His Teacher: How Macron Responded to Criticism

French President Emmanuel Macron laughed during an interaction with autistic journalists after receiving a 'critique' from one of them regarding his marriage to a woman significantly older than him. According to Daily Mail, the 45-year-old president first met his future wife, 69-year-old Brigitte, when he was just 15 years old, as she was teaching him at La Providence high school.

During a meeting with journalists from Le Papotin, a note written on a card posed a question to Macron, prompting a bemused interviewer on stage to hand the piece of paper to the president for him to read aloud.

It read, 'He is the president. You should set an example and not marry your teacher.' This was met with laughter from those present. In response, Macron stated, 'You don’t choose who you fall in love with. She wasn’t really my teacher; she was teaching me theater. That doesn't count.'
