Doctors Refused to Perform a Cesarean Section: Mother of Deceased Newborn Provides Details
At the "Saint Grigor Lusavorich" medical center, the mother of a newborn who died on January 7 expressed her conviction in an interview with NEWS.am that her daughter passed away due to the negligence and inattentiveness of the doctors.
She blames the head of the maternity ward, Arsen Sargsyan, and the doctor who performed the ultrasound, claiming he incorrectly assessed the baby's weight. Throughout the entire pregnancy, the woman's case was monitored by a doctor from the Number 16 Polyclinic in Zeytun, who directed her to the "Saint Grigor Lusavorich" medical center for a cesarean section in the late stages of her pregnancy, noting that given the severity of her condition, it was not advisable for her to give birth naturally.
"I told the doctor that I was having a very difficult pregnancy, let's intervene quickly and perform a cesarean. He said no— you will give birth on your own; I promise you that. Then, the ultrasound doctor looked at the situation but said, 'I don't know, the weight is over five kilograms, but it can't be more than five thousand for the baby's weight.' My sister-in-law said, 'Be specific about the baby's weight,’ and he replied, 'My arms hurt; I can't check; whoever gets close sends them to us,'" the woman recounted.
Since January 5, the mother had been in the hospital, and until the day of delivery on January 7, she repeatedly requested for a cesarean section, but the doctors refused, arguing that her obesity could pose risks.
"I do not deny that I am overweight, but am I the only one with weight issues who can request a cesarean section? The delivery was very difficult. It was under 12 to 15; one of the doctors, whom I am very pleased with because of his considerate attitude, said, 'Let's wait until 12:00; if it doesn't happen naturally, we will perform a cesarean.' They took out the child, but it didn't cry. I asked, 'Why didn't it cry?' The doctor looked at my face and said, 'Where should it cry from? Your baby is dead; it suffocated.' He stated, 'The baby was born weighing 5 kg 950 grams; that number was given by them, I didn’t make it up.' I have nothing against any member of the nursery staff; they treated me well, and they would have intervened if Arsen Sargsyan allowed it. They were looking to him, who said, 'What is a four-kilogram baby that cannot be born naturally,' and then told my mother, 'How did I know it was a giant that died? I should have said it was dead,'" the woman told the media.
