Why Support for Ukraine While Ignoring Artsakh: Alexander Lapshin on the Situation Around Artsakh
Russian-Jewish blogger Alexander Lapshin has addressed the situation around Artsakh on his Facebook page, discussing the actions undertaken by Armenians and Armenia. “Armenians are dissatisfied that the world doesn’t care about Artsakh, international media do not write about it, and political figures in Europe and the USA limit themselves to empty resolutions. This is true, but do you know why? You are to blame for not being taken seriously by anyone. Let me give you a concrete example: all my attempts to connect Armenian politicians and diplomats with European and Israeli media ended unsuccessfully because Armenians did not communicate with journalists, were late for agreed meetings, or simply did not respond to the calls and messages of journalists and public figures. I have heard such comments from many foreign friends in Armenia. Perfect irresponsibility and infantilism at a time when 120,000 compatriots are under siege.
On the other hand, the whole of Facebook is filled with sorrowful posts stating that all media only write about Ukraine but have forgotten about Artsakh. However, Ukrainians are very strong on both diplomatic and informational platforms. If Ukrainians are not responded to, they remind about themselves again and again, scream, and shame Europe and America for inadequate support. They do not sit on the couch and complain that they are not loved. Do you think they are supported out of love for the Ukrainian people? They don’t care about Ukraine just like they don’t care about Artsakh and Armenia, or Christians in Sudan, Syria, or Pakistan. But Ukrainians know how to present themselves skillfully and make others do what they need, while you do not know how. Therefore, there is nothing to blame the whole world for; you must take your fate into your own hands and act.
