Putin Orders Admiral Gorshkov Frigate to Combat Service
Russian President Vladimir Putin has given the order for the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, equipped with Zircon naval missile systems, to enter combat service.
“I am very happy. Congratulations! This is a wonderful joint effort that ended with the good result we expected. Continue with the tasks. Seven feet below,” Putin said, addressing the participants of the ceremony.
On December 21, 2022, Putin announced that the Admiral Gorshkov frigate would enter combat service with the latest Zircon naval missile systems in early January. At that time, he stated that there are plans to continue arming strategic forces with the latest weaponry.
The Russian president mentioned that the servicing area of the ship, which is armed with Zircon hypersonic and cruise missiles, would be selected based on the interests of ensuring Russia's security.
Zircon is the world’s first hypersonic cruise missile capable of sustained aerodynamic flight while maneuvering through the atmosphere using its engine power. Its maximum speed reaches nine times the speed of sound, with a maximum firing range of 1,000 kilometers. The Zircon can target both surface and land targets.
