VIDEO: Professor Tears Up His Diplomas in Kabul Following Taliban's Ban on Women's Education
“I no longer need these diplomas, as there is no place for education in my country.” This statement was made by Ismail Mashaal, a professor from Kabul, as he tore up his diplomas live on air in protest against the Taliban's ban on women's access to local education.
“From today, I no longer need these diplomas, because there is no place for education in this country. If my sister and mother cannot learn, then I reject this education,” he said during an interview with Tolo News.
Ismail Mashaal is the founder of the private Mashal University in Kabul and also teaches at Kabul University. On December 20, the Taliban banned girls from attending higher education institutions. This came after the government prohibited girls from studying in high schools earlier this March.
