Protests Erupt in Israel Following Netanyahu's Appointment as Prime Minister

Under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, opponents of the new Israeli government organized protests today in Tel Aviv, blocking one of the city's main highways. According to The Jerusalem Post, hundreds of demonstrators closed off the intersection area near the Azrieli towers for an hour, located within the city’s eastern business center, and then moved onto the nearby Ayalon highway, a key route in Israel's largest agglomeration.

The protesters held a spontaneous march in Tel Aviv, obstructing traffic in both directions. The publication reported that most participants were supporters of left and centrist parties. Many brought rainbow flags from the LGBTQ community, protesting against the conservative agenda that representatives from ultra-conservative parties intend to promote in the new cabinet. The demonstrators also chanted slogans against specific ministers in the new government, accusing them of corruption.

Earlier on Thursday, opponents of Netanyahu had staged a demonstration outside the Knesset in Jerusalem, where a vote of confidence in the new cabinet was taking place. After the session, Netanyahu's new government was sworn in and officially began its work.
