Gagik Surenyans Reports on January Weather Expectations

In the Republic, the upcoming holiday days will be without snow. During a press conference in the Armenian Ministry of Environment's Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Center, Deputy Director Gagik Surenyans informed that in the coming days, until January 5, the existing anti-cyclone will maintain its influence, ensuring clear skies and precipitation-free weather across the regions.

“Moreover, from January 1, a significant influx of tropical warm air currents is expected, which means an increase in air temperatures. This will not affect Yerevan and the Ararat Plain, as there is a stagnation of cold air in these areas that will prevent the penetration of these warm air currents,” said Gagik Surenyans.

In contrast to Yerevan and the Ararat Plain, the air temperature in other regions of the Republic is expected to rise significantly during the period from January 1-3. A temperature increase of about 5-6 degrees is predicted. During daytime, almost all mountainous regions will register temperatures of +5...+6 degrees, while in the pre-mountainous areas, it could reach up to +10 degrees. In the valleys of Syunik and Tavush, temperatures will be recorded at +16...+17, which is 8-10 degrees above the climatic norm.

For the next five days, the expected temperature background for the Ararat Plain and Yerevan will be from -3 to -6 degrees at night and up to +6 degrees during the day. Regarding January, Gagik Surenyans noted that warm weather is expected. The average monthly air temperature will be 2-3 degrees above the climatic norm. The amount of precipitation is predicted to be below normal.
