David Tonoyan to Remain in Custody

The Anti-Corruption Court has denied the request of David Tonoyan's lawyers, and the former Minister of Defense of Armenia will remain in custody. The lawyers had previously submitted a request for the former minister's release on bail amounting to 35 million drams. David Tonoyan has been in detention for 1 year and 3 months.

It is noteworthy that on September 30, 2021, the NSS announced the arrest of former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan and Davit Galstyan, who was involved in arms supply, on suspicion of large-scale embezzlement.

Earlier, on September 25, the NSS reported that the former head of the military aviation, Avetik Muradyan, had been arrested on suspicion of abusing power and committing official forgery, leading to severe material consequences. According to the announcement, he was officially aware that one of the companies supplying weapons and ammunition imported rockets produced between 1985 and 1991 into Armenia as early as 2011. After some time following the delivery, some of the missiles were not fired and were removed from the balance, while the rest were never used, including during the 44-day war that began on September 27, 2020.
