State of Emergency Declared in New York

U.S. President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in New York on Monday due to heavy snowfall. This was announced in a statement posted on the White House website.

“President Biden announced today a state of emergency in New York and ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local efforts in responding to the emergency situation following a severe winter storm that began on December 23, 2022,” the statement reads.

Biden has authorized the Department of Homeland Security and experts from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist efforts to help residents.

Last week, a significant portion of the U.S. was affected by severe weather characterized by cold, strong wind gusts, and snowfall. Temperatures in many states dropped to near-record low levels.
