Why Aivinyan Did Not Mention in His Post That the MAN Buses Are Coming to Yerevan Under Contracts Signed by Hayk Marutyan
The first batch of German MAN buses, consisting of 20 vehicles, will soon arrive in Yerevan, while an additional 87 MAN buses are set to arrive in the coming month. This was announced on December 24 by Tigran Aivinyan, the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan. He also shared a video on his Facebook page showing the MAN buses entering Armenia.
According to Civilnet.am, the procurement process for these German buses was initiated by former Mayor Hayk Marutyan before being subjected to a vote of no-confidence by the Civil Contract party. In November 2021, he signed agreements for the “Yerevan Buses” program, which aimed to purchase 100 units of 12-meter buses for Yerevan. The program was being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which provided a loan of 25 million euros to Armenia.
Tigran Aivinyan and Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan traveled to Poland at the end of November to familiarize themselves with the bus assembly process. However, despite Aivinyan announcing his candidacy in the upcoming Yerevan mayoral elections in March 2022, he made no mention in his post about the ongoing transfer process of the MAN buses under the contracts signed by Marutyan.
