Moscow Hopes Washington Will Exercise Enough Wisdom in Current Situation: Russian Foreign Ministry

Moscow hopes that Washington will show enough wisdom to avoid a direct confrontation between the Russian Federation and the United States in the current situation. This was stated by Alexander Darchiev, the director of the North America Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with TASS.

“We can only hope that Washington will hear the voice of reason and will not allow things to escalate into a direct confrontation between Russia and the U.S. Otherwise, the break in diplomatic relations could become a reality, with all the resulting consequences,” the diplomat said.

Darchiev emphasized that it is the U.S. that has “set in motion the flywheel of bilateral relations’ destruction.” 

“By choosing self-isolation from Moscow, Washington is now trying to shift the blame, as if the current administration was not responsible for bringing those relations to an irreversible state. We are not going to sever those ties, but we will not tolerate malicious provocations that leave us no alternative,” he added.
