Individual Taxi Drivers Must Be Licensed: Fine Amount Disclosed
Auroranews recently received a report from a taxi driver who stated that members of the patrol service fined him 50,000 drams for operating an unlicensed taxi.
Days ago, it was announced that the State Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspectorate is urging drivers to get licensed before December 15. Otherwise, unlicensed taxi drivers will face fines. According to this notice, by getting licensed, individual taxi drivers will not have tax obligations but must display identification on their vehicles and affix a minimal price sticker.
It should be noted that a fine of 50,000 drams is set for operating without a license, with the amount doubling for second and third offenses.
Most taxi services in Armenia are unlicensed, as individual taxi drivers have not been supervised by any agency for several years and are exempt from paying taxes and fees.
Drivers are held accountable under administrative violation articles.
Officials from the inspectorate have stated that there are currently two licensing regulations in effect for taxis: one for individual taxis and the other for private companies.
Auroranews contacted the State Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspectorate, where we were informed that drivers can find licensing addresses on the official website of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia.
