Gnel Sanosyan on the Construction of an Alternative Road Connecting Artsakh to Armenia

The alternative road to Lachin stretches from the village of Tegh to Kornidzor and then up to the border, covering a total of 11.7 kilometers. Three construction companies are at work on the project, overcoming major challenges related to earthworks and blasting. This was stated today, December 23, by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan during a press conference.

“Approximately 80% of the work has been completed. Our schedule is that by the end of the year, we will mostly finish the earthworks, and simultaneously, pipes will be installed and retaining walls will be constructed. Our goal is to pave the road by May. If the weather permits, we will pave two layers; if not, we will lay down one layer to make the road passable, with subsequent layers added later,” he said.

Addressing the plans for 2023, the minister noted, “Our budget is at least 20% larger, and we will have more planned works. A considerable portion will go to the Shirak region and Gyumri. We will complete the section of the North-South highway from Lanjik to Gyumri next year, and we will also enter an active construction phase for the Artik-Ashtarak section.”
