Civil Aviation Committee on Azerbaijani Flights Over Armenian Airspace
Amid the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, NEWS.am sent a written inquiry to the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia.
Question: "Is Armenia planning to close its airspace to Azerbaijani aircraft in light of Azerbaijan's blockade of the Lachin corridor?"
Response: "In accordance with internationally accepted formats, all international flights are conducted based on previously issued flight plans. Each member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) must not apply a discriminatory approach to the use of its airspace, as stipulated in Article 9, subsection b) of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation. Restrictions on airspace imposed by the Civil Aviation Committee (hereafter referred to as the Committee) are carried out solely for the purpose of ensuring flight safety for all aircraft operators. Your raised question is outside the jurisdiction of the Committee."
