Criteria for Determining Suitability for Military Service Clarified
The government has adopted a decision that will clarify the list of diseases determining the degree of suitability for military service of a citizen or serviceman, as well as the relevant group of persons according to their relation to military service. According to the justification, the diseases and their classifications in the current list do not conform to the classifications developed by the World Health Organization.
Thus, the list of diseases determining the degree of suitability for military service, the severity of diseases, and the degree of functional impairments of organs will be clarified, with diagnostic tools necessary for assessment being specified. The diseases and their classifications will be aligned with the classifications developed by the WHO. Additionally, the conditions for military service that are contraindicated for a citizen or serviceman will be specified, detailing the characteristics of restrictions and prohibited physical exercises.
Another decision by the Executive will clarify the circle of persons subject to examination, including conscripts, citizens subject to conscription or registered in reserves, servicemen, and persons equated to them, under the authorities conducting the examinations. The volumes and procedures of research and examination, the forms of documents used in the process, and the conditions of remuneration for specialists involved in the research and examination processes will also be outlined.
The government has also decided to announce the mandatory conscription of male medical specialists registered in the reserve officer corps of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, aged up to 35, from December 26, 2022, to February 20, 2023, inclusive, with a service term set at two years. The number of individuals subject to the conscription from the reserve corps has been established at up to 10 medical specialists. By February 20, 2023, the discharge of servicemen who have undergone mandatory military service from the reserve officer corps will be implemented.
