Zahharova Responds to EU Sanctions Against Russian Media

The EU sanctions against Russian media are a form of censorship, stated Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She pointed out that the restrictions imposed on four more Russian media outlets in EU member states are an “authoritarian measure,” and such measures have become a “common practice” for Brussels.

“These are yet another proof of the EU's desire to impose strict censorship on information flows, including the unacceptable banning of media outlets, which contradicts the principles of freedom of speech and media for third countries,” the statement issued by Zakharova said.

She noted that the current decision violates the right of EU residents to access information.
