Arzrun Hovhannisyan Testifies About the Capture of Kovsakan and Admits He Was Wrong: What the Lawyer Says

In testimony regarding the capture of Kovsakan during the 44-day war, Arzrun Hovhannisyan admitted he was mistaken when he stated on October 22 that the Armenian side had achieved an unprecedented victory. This information was shared by lawyer Vahan Hovhannisyan on his Facebook page.

“So much has been said about Arzrun Hovhannisyan after the 44-day war that it seems there is nothing left to say, but... Recently, I was reviewing the case materials and came across the following information. On October 19-20, 2020, the Azerbaijanis captured Kovsakan (Zangelan), hoisted their flag on the school building, and posted photos online. One day later, on October 21, our forces received orders to carry out a combat mission in Kovsakan; however, they were surrounded, leading to the deaths or capture of 40 individuals. The next day, on October 22, Arzrun Hovhannisyan announced during the ‘Haylur’ program that our forces had decimated the Azerbaijanis in Kovsakan, and that the flag was fake. Do you understand? Kovsakan was captured, the flag was hoisted on the school’s roof, our operations were a failure, 40 people were killed or captured, and yet Arzrun says, ‘Don’t believe it, we recorded an unprecedented victory!’

“For 44 days, they fed us these kinds of scraps, and like blind chickens, we consumed them. Was there any basis for state treason in Arzrun’s actions, or not? We will discuss this further,” the lawyer wrote.

In an interview with Auroranews, Arzrun Hovhannisyan declined to comment on Vahan Hovhannisyan’s statement.
