For the First Time in Three Years, More Tourists Arrived in Armenia

For the first time in three years, the number of tourists entering Armenia exceeded the figures of the same month in 2019 in November. Mekhak Apresyan, president of the Armenian Tourism Federation, highlights the internal and external reasons for the increase in tourism visits to our country.

According to the data from the Tourism Committee, 1.54 million tourists arrived in Armenia from January to November 2022. Importantly, for the first time since 2019, the monthly figures have been surpassed; in November 2022 alone, 144,576 tourist visits were recorded compared to 140,376 in the same month in 2019 (with 85,762 tourists arriving in November 2021).

In an interview with Sputnik Armenia, Apresyan noted that a large portion of these visits (47%) are attributed to the influx of tourists from Russia. Following Russia, tourists from Georgia, Iran, the USA, and Germany follow with a significant difference.

It is worth mentioning that in 2019, 1,926,353 people visited Armenia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of visitors dropped sixfold in 2020, reaching only 375,216.
