Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wanted to leave the 2022 World Cup after learning that he would not start in Portugal's lineup. The forward remained on the bench during the Round of 16 match against Switzerland (6-1) and came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute but did not make a significant impact.

Upon hearing that Fernando Santos had decided not to include him in the starting lineup, he became upset. According to Record, Ronaldo was very close to packing his belongings and leaving the tournament. However, after some time, the player calmed down.

It is also noted that Ronaldo refused to train with the bench players who remained during the match against Switzerland in the Round of 16 and opted to do recovery work with the main team, as reported by the Daily Mail.
