Video: Ambassadors to Be Appointed in Armenia and Hungary Soon - Mirzoyan

During a question-and-answer session with government officials, Rustam Bakoyan, a member of the Civil Contract faction, inquired about the resumption of diplomatic relations with Hungary. He reminded Ararat Mirzoyan that Armenia had frozen its diplomatic ties with Hungary following the decision to extradite Ramil Safarov, who had murdered Armenian soldier Gurgen Margaryan.

"Has Armenia changed its position on this matter?" the MP asked. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan confirmed that there had indeed been an agreement to resume diplomatic relations. He added that Armenia's assessment regarding the aforementioned events had not changed.

"Hungarian authorities should not have extradited the criminal who killed Armenian soldier Gurgen Margaryan, a criminal convicted by a Hungarian court, to Azerbaijan. Our perceptions remain the same, but at the same time, recalling those events, we also remember the efforts made by Hungary last December towards the release of five Armenian prisoners of war," Mirzoyan stated, also noting that the Hungarian government had supported Armenia during the COVID-19 pandemic and in other similar instances.

He emphasized that a choice must be made for more positivity and the future. "You will soon hear about the appointment of ambassadors by both countries in each other's territories," the Foreign Minister stated.
