Former Argentine President Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison

Former Argentine Vice President and President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has been sentenced to six years in prison and permanently barred from holding public office. A panel of three judges found her guilty of a scheme involving fraud, in which authorities stole $1 billion (956 million euros) from state programs during her tenure as head of state.

The court dismissed the charge of leading a criminal organization, which carried a potential sentence of 12 years in prison.
