Azerbaijan Will Support Turkey in Implementing Russia's Proposed Gas Hub Project
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Fatih Donmez, has announced that Azerbaijan and several other countries have expressed support for the gas hub project proposed by Russia.
Earlier, Ibrahim Kalin, the representative of the Turkish president, stated that Turkey could become not only a transit country for gas but also a place where a market is formed. The presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had previously instructed their teams to develop the plans for creating a gas hub in Turkey in detail and promptly, specifically allowing for the transit of gas from the Northern Stream to the Black Sea region and Turkey.
Erdogan also believes that Europe could receive Russian gas through Turkish territory. "Azerbaijan's President Aliyev has expressed his support for this project... At the end of the week, their (Azerbaijani) delegation will be my guests in Istanbul, and we will discuss this project," Donmez said in an interview with 24tv.
