Saakashvili's Condition Worsens, Life in Danger, Doctor Says

The health condition of former President Mikheil Saakashvili has deteriorated, with doctors from the Public Defender's Office of Georgia diagnosing him with stage four cachexia (body wasting), which they say poses a threat to his life. This information was reported on Tuesday by doctor Tengiz Tsuladze, according to TASS.

“The patient’s condition has significantly worsened, as evidenced by weight loss, deterioration of cognitive functions, polyneuropathy, as well as a decrease in muscle mass and weakness. The patient finds it difficult to stand, has trouble communicating, and is experiencing fever. All these factors give us the right to talk about such a serious complication as cachexia,” Tsuladze stated.

According to him, Saakashvili has stage four cachexia, and if his health continues to deteriorate at the same rate, the former president may live for only a few more months. As noted by the doctor, “fundamental measures” must be taken, meaning he should be transferred abroad for treatment. Tsuladze emphasized that there are no complaints against the doctors at the Vivamed clinic, who are doing everything possible within their capabilities, but Georgian medicine lacks sufficient experience in handling such diagnoses.

On December 1, the non-governmental organization Empathy published a study revealing that heavy metals, including mercury, had been detected in Saakashvili's body. According to the organization’s head, Mariam Jishkariani, the former president of Georgia must be sent abroad for treatment; otherwise, he could die. Experts also note that at the time of his arrest, Saakashvili weighed 116 kg, and now his weight is 73.6 kg.
