Gegham Manukyan to Face Charges

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that Armenia’s Chief Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan will arrive at the National Assembly to present charges against Gegham Manukyan, a member of the "Hayastan" faction in the National Assembly.

It has previously been reported that Manukyan has come under the scrutiny of law enforcement for his statements regarding Kurdish fighters’ presence in Turkey. According to Article 108 of the National Assembly's rules, criminal prosecution or detention of a member can only occur with the consent of the Assembly based on the prosecutor's request.

Furthermore, any decision to initiate criminal proceedings or detain a member must be approved through a secret ballot in the Assembly. It should be noted that Gegham Manukyan has been questioned by the National Security Service concerning the criminal case regarding the Kurdish fighters' situation, which he confirmed in a conversation with us.

Previously, "Zhoghovurd" reported that a criminal case has been opened regarding the mysterious case of the Kurds being found in Turkey, and there are significant efforts to uncover how the two Kurdish fighters ended up near Turkish law enforcement agencies. Additionally, it was reported that the two Kurds had illegally crossed the state border of Armenia over the Araks River on August 16, 2021.
