Azerbaijan Seeks to Create Humanitarian Disaster in Artsakh: Taguhi Tovmasyan
Member of Parliament Taguhi Tovmasyan writes: “The closure of the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia by Azerbaijanis is another manifestation of Azerbaijan's ethnic hatred towards the Armenian people, its criminal policy of blockading Artsakh, and the blatant violations of the fundamental rights of the people of Artsakh. With this step, Azerbaijan is trying to gradually disrupt the infrastructure between the two Armenian republics and to implement a new genocide against the Armenian population of Artsakh in the near future.
I call the attention of my international partners to Azerbaijan's illegal actions that violate fundamental human rights such as life, health, freedom, and other universal rights. By closing the only road supplying Artsakh, the Azerbaijanis have blocked the transfer of medical supplies and medications to Artsakh. Those patients with severe health issues could not be transported from Artsakh to Armenia during this time to receive the necessary medical assistance.
Two days before this illegal action, I drew the attention of international circles to Azerbaijan's criminal activities in recent days, emphasizing the need for sanctions against Azerbaijan for violating the fundamental rights of the Armenian people. Otherwise, under conditions of impunity for the international community, Azerbaijan will resort to new crimes.
I am alerting my international partners that the closure of the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia is just the beginning of Azerbaijan's ongoing crimes. In the upcoming period, Azerbaijan seeks to create a humanitarian disaster in Artsakh to realize its genocidal plans, depriving the people of Artsakh of the right to live peacefully in their homeland and ethnically cleansing Artsakh.
Meanwhile, the government of Prime Minister Pashinyan, which has pledged to pursue a peace agenda with the Turks and lowered the bar regarding the issue of Artsakh, remains stubbornly silent while the security guarantees and rights must be the foundation of the Armenian agenda for resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
