Video: Damage to Cultural Landmark Sculptures for Government Building Decoration Raises Alarm
With the New Year approaching, damage has been inflicted upon the sculptural decorations of a cultural and historical monument building during the decoration works at Republic Square. A nail embedded in one of the sculptures has caused a crack, leading to public outrage and severe criticism on social media. Many are labeling this as state vandalism.
Prominent lawyer Yervand Varosyan wrote: "This is not just a picture showing indifference or sloppy attitude towards the relief sculptures of the square’s buildings. This image represents a narrative where, apart from hanging colorful lights and gathering political favors, there is nothing: no homeland, no native land, no native nature, no native history, and no values. The result will be what we see now, and it may get even worse."
Expert on Azerbaijan, Angela Elibegova, posted a photo and commented: "Avinyan, this is not right." Former Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture Tigran Galstyan expressed, "How barbaric must a person be to damage a monument building's sculptural decoration for a few days of festive lighting?"
