Cows in China to be Chipped for Health Monitoring

Scientists at the Southwest University of Chongqing in China have proposed chip implanting in cows to monitor their health, location, and living conditions. The team's work has been published in iScience, as reported by Gazeta.ru.

The researchers have developed smart sensors that can be placed on the neck and feet of cows. It is noted that the data collected by the sensors will be transmitted to a base station, allowing for real-time monitoring of the animals. The device will be powered by kinetic energy generated when the cow moves.

“Monitoring large livestock will help prevent diseases and improve the efficiency of cattle breeding and pasture management. The sensor can track oxygen concentration, air temperature and humidity, the amount of movement, reproductive cycles, and milk production cycles,” the scientists mentioned.

Experts have already tested the devices on humans and found that light jogging is sufficient to ensure stable operation of the device. Researchers believe that in the future, this technology could be utilized in sports and healthcare sectors.
