Armenia and Hungary Reestablish Diplomatic Relations
On December 1, during the OSCE Ministerial Council in Lodz, a meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Hungary, Ararat Mirzoyan and Peter Szijjarto. This was reported by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The parties acknowledged the deep historical and cultural ties existing between the Armenian and Hungarian peoples and their shared Christian heritage, highlighting the importance of improving relations between Armenia and Hungary. The interlocutors also underscored the role of the Hungarian Armenian community, which is officially recognized as a national minority, as one of the bridges connecting the two countries.
The ministers exchanged views on the current phase of Armenia-Hungary relations. They agreed to restore full diplomatic relations, expressing the intention to open a new chapter in Armenian-Hungarian relations based on mutual trust and respect for international law.
Following the meeting, both governments will appoint non-resident ambassadors to explore possibilities for developing their relations, particularly in the fields of trade, culture, education, and tourism. The necessary diplomatic and administrative procedures will commence in the coming days.
