Arsen Torosyan to be summoned for questioning
The "Joughourdi" daily reports that, according to its sources, an internal discussion within law enforcement has taken place regarding summoning the former Minister of Health and current member of the National Assembly from the ruling party, Arsen Torosyan, for questioning by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
It is said that the investigative body is preparing to send a notification to Arsen Torosyan, although so far, there has been no decision to charge him. Notably, intriguing circumstances have emerged in the ongoing criminal case. According to information we have received, the Anti-Corruption Committee has been actively summoning employees of the “Grigor Lusavorich” Medical Center for questioning.
What is the criminal case about? The matter revolves around a criminal case initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee in June of this year to determine whether public funds were spent effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The criminal case was launched under several articles, including embezzlement, abuse of official authority, and official forgery. Currently, there are no suspects or accused individuals in the case. The initiation of the criminal proceedings was prompted by a report released by the Audit Chamber, which concluded that the funds allocated for combating the pandemic were not spent appropriately and effectively during the peak periods of the crisis when Arsen Torosyan was in charge of the Ministry of Health. He now serves as a member of the ruling party.
Aware of the impending situation, the National Assembly member from the ruling party, Heriknaz Tigranyan, has introduced Torosyan to the head of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Sasun Khachatryan. Reports suggest that Torosyan aims to ensure that the embezzlements related to the COVID-19 response are not fully uncovered.
