Which MP Will Be Arrested First: 'Zhoghovurd'
«Zhoghovurd» newspaper reports that the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia is expected to go to the parliament during the regular four-day session starting on December 6. This information comes from sources within the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office known to the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper. The first MP to be arrested will be Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the 'Armenia' faction, concerning whom Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan will address the parliament.
The political authority has decided to first strip Seyran Ohanyan, the former Minister of Defense, of parliamentary immunity and then proceed with arresting him. According to Article 108, Clause 2 of the RA 'Rules of Procedure' law, the prosecutor's 'request is discussed in the upcoming regular sessions of the National Assembly,' meaning it is not possible to address the parliament regarding the MP’s arrest in an extraordinary session.
As the regular session starts on December 6 for four days, it is expected that the prosecutor will enter the National Assembly next month. No regular sessions are scheduled for the rest of this year, with the next sessions planned for February. According to the scenario outlined by the authorities, the issues regarding Vahe Hakobyan and Armen Charghyan’s arrest will be postponed until next year. If they resign from their parliamentary mandates during this time, the matter may conclude differently.
In any case, the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper sent an inquiry to the RA Anti-Corruption Committee to clarify on which case Seyran Ohanyan is involved as an accused. The Anti-Corruption Committee stated that 'Seyran Ohanyan has a status as an accused in the criminal case regarding the abuse of official powers in the process of selling property of 'Zhora HPP' LLC.' He is accused of causing particularly large-scale waste of property.
Ohanyan has stated on various occasions that this case is fabricated and baseless.
