112 Cans of Marijuana Imported from the USA to Armenia, Arrest Made
Recently, customs officers from the Customs Committee's fight against smuggling department at the "Zvartnots" airport conducted a customs inspection of an international parcel shipment imported from the USA through the "Global Shipping" LLC via "Globbing".
The inspection revealed approximately 2400 grams of a greenish substance believed to be marijuana, contained in 112 metal cans. The Customs Committee's public relations department reported that a decision was made the same day to carry out operational-investigative measures, including "Acquisition of Operational Information" and "Controlled Supply and Purchase" due to the smuggling case.
Simultaneously, efforts made by the officers from the Operational Investigation and Zvartnots departments led to identifying the recipient of the parcel. According to the documents, the recipient was an Armenian citizen identified as Z.T.
Under the "Controlled Supply and Purchase" operational-investigative measure, after receiving the international parcel with the replaced substances of marijuana, the actual recipient of the package, an Armenian citizen named V.H., was arrested on the basis of well-founded suspicion immediately after receiving the parcel from the service center of "Globbing" located on Mesrop Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan.
A personal search was conducted in accordance with the arrest, and thereafter, he was taken to the investigative department of the Customs Committee. The minutes regarding the smuggling case were prepared by the employees of the Customs Committee's fight against smuggling department, along with the discovered quantities of the substance, and submitted to the investigative department of the Customs Committee, where criminal proceedings have been initiated.
