VIDEO: The Ukrainian Flag Raised in Kherson
After the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Kherson region, an official flag-raising ceremony took place with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing the Deputy Head of Zelensky's Office, Kiril Timoshenko.
Sky News journalists report that minutes before Zelensky's arrival, there were shelling sounds in the center of Kherson. After Zelensky finished his speech, there were several more artillery explosions.
Eyewitnesses reported that Zelensky spent about 30 minutes in Kherson before leaving. Ukrainians gathered in the main square to see the president; some waved the national flag while others carried it on their shoulders. “I am very happy. That happiness is also reflected in the people's reactions; their reactions are not staged: the people were waiting for the Ukrainian army, our soldiers, all of us,” said Zelensky.
He emphasized that it was important for him to visit the city and show that “they are truly returning, they are truly raising our flag.”
It is noteworthy that this was Zelensky's first visit to the city since the withdrawal of Russian troops. He expressed gratitude to NATO and other allies for their support in the war against Russia.
It should be reminded that Kherson has been under Russian control since March 2, 2022. Zelensky also announced that in recent days, the armed forces of Ukraine have established control over 60 settlements in the Kherson region.
