“We Are Truly and Sincerely Committed to the Peace Agenda” – Simonian to the OSCE PA Young Parliamentarians
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, delivered a welcoming address at the meeting of the OSCE PA Young Parliamentarians on November 13.
Addressing the attendees, the Speaker highlighted that the driving force behind the Velvet Revolution in 2018 was the youth, who raised their voices in favor of democratic values. “After the revolution, democratic values are our main priority. Armenian democracy is already being discussed worldwide,” emphasized the Speaker.
Speaking about youth involvement in the political arena, Alen Simonyan noted that Armenia ranks second among countries with parliamentarians under the age of 30 in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Speaker underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, including the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly as a platform for strengthening trust in the OSCE region.
Referring to the new phase of large-scale aggression by Azerbaijani forces against the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13, Alen Simonyan stated, “We are truly and sincerely committed to the peace agenda, which is a guarantee for the peaceful development and coexistence of the Republic of Armenia and the region.”
The Speaker responded to questions from young parliamentarians, which particularly concerned the reinforcement of freedom of speech, solutions to security issues, and points of the democratic agenda.
