Mayor on the Devastated Mashtots Avenue
Mashtots Avenue has been in a state of disarray for nearly two years. The Yerevan Municipality has decided to replace the electric poles and move the wires underground. Currently, a trench runs the length of the avenue, carelessly filled with red pipes through which the cables are to be passed.
In an interview with Hraparak.am, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan did not provide any encouraging news regarding when the construction would be completed. “The lighting of 28 streets has drawn criticism for the last two years, and the citizens are right to voice their concerns. However, this is not a result of inaction, and I do not appreciate being blamed for these issues. We are facing technical problems that we have partially resolved, and work is currently underway,” said the mayor.
According to him, the completion of the project is scheduled for November of next year, but this concerns all 28 streets, not just Mashtots Avenue. “As for Mashtots alone, I believe it will be quicker, but I cannot specify a timeline at this moment,” Hrachya Sargsyan added.
