Instead of 30,000 Drams, 100,000 Drams Will Be Allocated: No Graduate from Orphanages Has Been Able to Rent Housing at State Expense

In 2022, no graduate from orphanages in Armenia was able to rent housing at the state's expense. This information was disclosed today by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Narek Mkrtchyan, during a session of the National Assembly.

“The 1,440,000 drams allocated for the rental housing program for orphanage graduates in 2022 were not spent, because the amount of 30,000 drams planned per month for one graduate was unrealistic, which is why no apartment was rented,” Mkrtchyan stated.

To resolve this issue, in 2023, the government has set the monthly rental fee for one apartment at 100,000 drams instead of 30,000 drams, which has increased the program's budget from 1.4 million drams this year to 12 million drams.

It is worth noting that measures are currently being planned to provide housing to orphanage graduates through the issuance of housing purchase certificates and reimbursement of rental costs. However, there are no measures planned for housing purchases for orphanage graduates for 2023.

According to official statistics, in recent years, housing purchase certificates have been issued to 281 individuals: 55 in 2019, 149 in 2020, 6 in 2021, and 71 in 2022.
