Government Plans to Build, Renovate, and Upgrade at Least 50 Medical Centers in the Coming Year

The government plans to implement the construction, renovation, and complete upgrading of at least 50 medical centers over the next five years, with a focus on regional ambulatories in 2023. This was announced by Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan during a joint session of the permanent committees of the National Assembly discussing the draft of the 2023 state budget.

“According to the government’s program, we are expected to carry out the construction, renovation, and complete upgrading of at least 50 medical centers over the next five years. Given the current favorable financial additions, we believe that we should fully realize this promise in the coming years,” Avanesyan stated.

In 2022, the list of capital constructions includes 13 medical centers. Additional centers will also be established in 2023, primarily focusing on the renovation and upgrading of regional ambulatories. “Next year, we have planned the design work for 20 ambulatories. We are negotiating with the urban development committee to carry them out in modular formats, meaning that we will have one designed standard ambulatory that can then be deployed in various communities,” the minister added.

Additionally, the reconstruction of a polyclinic in Shirak and a polyclinic in Vanadzor is also included in the plans. Avanesyan emphasized that strengthening the primary health care sector will be a priority, and upcoming programs are aimed at serving that purpose.

The design works have been completed, and construction will take place in two buildings of the Republican Scientific Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Resocialization in the Armavir and Ararat regions, along with the renovation of the Vanadzor Infectious Diseases Hospital. Under World Bank programs, construction works for Martuni Medical Center and Yeghegnadzor Medical Center will also be completed in 2023. The Martuni Medical Center is set to be commissioned in April, while Yeghegnadzor’s is expected to be ready by autumn.
