Rishi Sunak Sells Poppies in the Subway

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, descended into London's "Westminster" subway station this morning, where he sold commemorative poppies as part of a charitable campaign by the Royal British Legion. This was reported by The Daily Mail, with information also relayed by gazeta.ru.

It was noted that the Prime Minister held a tray of poppies, engaging in conversation with surprised passersby. One poppy was priced at £5 (approximately 2000 drams). “I was on my way to buy a ticket, and he was there selling poppies,” said one Londoner, adding that he did not expect such an encounter in the subway.

Another person who spotted the Prime Minister mentioned that Sunak is not at all out of touch with reality, as he is sometimes portrayed on television. The Royal British Legion, which supports military veterans, emphasized their gratitude towards the Prime Minister for generously dedicating time to participate in the campaign during the morning rush hour.

“Passengers were surprised but evidently thrilled to receive their poppy from the Prime Minister, and we can’t thank him enough for supporting our effort to raise £1 million in just one day,” said Simon O'Leary, the director of the campaign.

The symbol of the red poppy was first used by the American Legion in memory of American soldiers who died in World War I. It is now used in several countries as a symbol of all victims of military and civilian armed conflicts since 1914.
