‘I Hope This Message Will Be Understood in Azerbaijan’: Mirzoyan
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, made one good and one bad remark during the discussion of the draft state budget for 2023:
“The bad news is that in all areas where we are negotiating with Azerbaijan, we essentially encounter Azerbaijan's maximalist and exclusivist positions. My impression is that Azerbaijan, considering that it has had military successes, now believes it can dictate certain conditions. This, of course, cannot be a reality, and it is impossible to achieve long-term, sustainable, and comprehensive peace through this path,” said Mirzoyan.
He noted that if Azerbaijan is genuinely interested in having sustainable peace in the South Caucasus, then it must acknowledge that one-sided and advantageous solutions cannot exist in certain matters.
When discussing the good news, Mirzoyan mentioned that all the issues present in the relations with Azerbaijan are receiving clear attention from the international community regarding the entire package of problems.
“This attention is growing, especially following the Azerbaijani aggression on September 13-14. I believe the international community sent a very clear message to Azerbaijan that the threat of using force cannot be a means of resolving issues. I hope this message will be understood in Azerbaijan,” Mirzoyan added.
He emphasized, “There are lines that should not be crossed; this is the message of the international community.”
