Azerbaijan's Security is Considered Iran's Security, Says Iran's Foreign Minister to Bayramov
Iran's Foreign Minister has rejected the presence of foreign forces in the region, stating that it complicates the regional situation, according to Tasnim.
During a phone call on Sunday, Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov discussed bilateral as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The Iranian diplomat emphasized the territorial integrity of regional countries, including Azerbaijan, adding, “We believe that the presence of foreigners in the region complicates the situation, and we oppose their presence. We consider it a threat to regional peace, stability, and cooperation.”
The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to finding a proper resolution to disputes in the Caucasus through “3+3” meetings (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia – Russia, Turkey, Iran) and regional mechanisms and will continue to make efforts to resolve existing issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” he stated.
The senior Iranian diplomat also noted, “We view the security of the region as an interconnected issue, and Azerbaijan's security is regarded as the security of the region and of Iran.”
Bayramov, for his part, praised Tehran's role in efforts toward restoring regional peace and stability. He also opposed the deployment of foreign forces in the region and emphasized the continuation of regional cooperation, including through the “3+3” format, to help maintain stability and security in the region.
It is worth mentioning that Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian recently stated that officially Tehran considers the security of Armenia as part of the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the region. “The military conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia have raised concerns in the region. The Caucasus region is experiencing a sensitive phase. We believe that respect for the territorial integrity of countries in the Caucasus region should be given serious attention. We are pleased that the relations between Tehran and Yerevan are on the right path and are progressing. We consider Armenia’s security as the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the region. We have clearly stated our concerns regarding any actions causing the presence of foreign forces in the region,” the diplomat said.
