As Minister of Defense of Armenia, I believe we must utilize the full potential of the global Armenian community – Papikyan

During the World Armenian Summit, Armenia's Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan noted that the challenges and threats facing Armenia require the consolidation of efforts and capabilities from the entire society.

“Since the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, not only has the regional power balance changed, but also the architecture of international security,” said the minister.

According to Papikyan, due to the geopolitical developments occurring in the world, new wars, and hotspots of tension, these military threats necessitate both a high level of preparedness of the armed forces provided by the state and consistent efforts aimed at combat readiness, as well as broad support and involvement from the Diaspora to enhance our country's defense capabilities and resilience on various fronts.

“Since the 44-day war, an analysis of the lessons learned has been conducted in the armed forces, based on which a comprehensive reform process for the armed forces has been initiated. Sectors related to the preparedness, operation, and logistics of the armed forces are undergoing radical changes aimed at transforming the army into a professional, motivated, mobile, and modernly equipped force with flexible military tools,” he emphasized.

Papikyan stated that legislative changes have been established to transition from a conscription system to a professional military. “We will present this legislative package to the National Assembly soon, and after approval, it will come into effect on January 1,” he announced.

He assured that a number of changes have been implemented in the military education system to enhance the preparedness level of both enlisted and officer personnel, and several programs have been launched aimed at increasing the attractiveness of military service.

“The war and the subsequent period, along with international and regional developments, show that having a domestic defense industry is imperative for ensuring Armenia's security. The targeted integration of the enormous potential of the Diaspora in scientific, professional, educational, high technology, and other fields, taking into account defense and security needs, can significantly enhance the level of Armenia's defense and security systems. I believe it is time to unite our efforts and resources to ensure the reliable defense of the homeland. As the Minister of Defense of Armenia, I believe we must utilize the full potential of the global Armenian community to seek new avenues of cooperation and to give a coordinated nature to joint projects,” concluded the Minister of Defense.
