Terrorist Groups Attempt to Penetrate CIS Countries, Says Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that CIS countries have not previously faced the type of terrorist threats that are emerging now. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
He highlighted that the Islamic State and other international terrorist organizations are trying to infiltrate CIS countries. During a council meeting with the heads of security and intelligence agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States, he emphasized the need to protect civilians and strengthen stability in the current situation.
"It is clear that the CIS as a whole and our countries individually have not yet encountered such complex threats. Our common task is to protect our people as much as possible and to strengthen stability," Putin said.
"Speaking about the threats present in the CIS area, I should note that the level of danger posed by ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and other terrorist groups is not diminishing. They are attempting to penetrate into CIS countries, create clandestine cells, and the concentration of militant groups in Afghanistan, particularly near the borders with Central Asian republics, indeed poses a potential risk of invasion into our region," the Russian leader described the situation.
