“I sincerely want the peace treaty to be signed by the end of the year,” says Pashinyan

The Armenian government will make every possible effort to ensure that a peace treaty with Azerbaijan is signed by the end of the year. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session with government members in the National Assembly, responding to a question from Lousine Badalyan of the Civil Contract party about how realistic the signing of a peace treaty is and when it will take place.

“I sincerely want, and I will wish, for it to be signed by the end of this year. As for how realistic this is, I will answer this question as follows: I and the government will exert all possible efforts to make this a reality. We hope, and this is an important nuance, that the delimitation work will be completed before the signing of the peace treaty. How realistic this is—considering that in Prague we agreed that this will happen based on the borders of 1991, this could be realistic, as those borders are effectively known,” Pashinyan said.

He mentioned that it is crucial for an internationally visible dialogue to begin between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, stating, “Hostility and the overall situation must be managed, because when it is unmanageable, it can only lead to harm. Beyond that, unfortunately or fortunately, I cannot make any higher statements,” the Prime Minister noted.
