Proposal to Transition from Cyrillic to Latin Alphabet in Ukraine

Proposal to Transition from Cyrillic to Latin Alphabet in Ukraine

A petition has been posted on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's official website, demanding the transition of the Ukrainian alphabet to the Latin format. This was reported by TASS.

The authors of the petition did not specify concrete reasons for the change but indicated that they were sufficient. “I ask you to consider the possibility of transitioning the Ukrainian alphabet to the Latin script within the framework of modern English. There are ample reasons for such a transition, and they are obvious,” says the request.

To present the petition to the president for consideration, it must gather 25,000 signatures.

Before the commencement of Russia's special operation in Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, had already advocated for abandoning the Cyrillic script in favor of the Latin alphabet.
