Indian Rishi Sunak Becomes Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak has been confirmed as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The Indian-origin Sunak won the competition by default as his rival, former Defense Secretary and Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt, failed to gather the necessary 100 votes, reports The Guardian.
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on October 20. Truss will continue to serve as Prime Minister until the new elections are held.
