Boris Johnson Will Not Run for UK Prime Minister

The former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, has announced that he will not seek the leadership of the ruling Conservative Party or the position of the head of government. He received support from only 59 Conservative MPs, whereas 100 votes were required to continue his campaign. This was reported by Sky News, citing the politician's statement.

According to Johnson, he has concluded that 'now is not the right time.' He stated that he spoke with other candidates for the UK Prime Minister position, including former Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Commons leader Penny Mordaunt, to see if they could work together for the national interest, but it turned out to be impossible.

'You cannot effectively govern if you do not have a united party in Parliament,' Johnson is quoted by Sky News.

At the same time, Johnson expressed that he has good prospects of leading the Conservative Party to victory in the 2024 elections.
