Aliyev Plans to Double Natural Gas Exports to Europe

Azerbaijan plans to double its natural gas exports to Europe over the next five years. According to TASS, this was announced by President Ilham Aliyev during a joint press conference with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

'This year, we signed a memorandum of understanding between Azerbaijan and the European Commission. Over the next five years, Azerbaijan intends to double natural gas exports to Europe. We have that capability. By 2027, we plan to export nearly 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe,' said Aliyev.

Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan intends to increase the volumes of oil supplied through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Supsa pipelines. The Azerbaijani leader expressed hope that the oil terminal located in Supsa village in western Georgia will also be involved in this process.

'Azerbaijan plans to export electricity to international markets. Of course, our route will definitely pass through Georgia. We have the capacity to export 157 GWh via the Caspian Sea,' he added. The president also mentioned that Azerbaijan has potential in the production of renewable energy. According to Aliyev, Baku and Tbilisi also plan to start implementing several new joint projects in the energy sector.
