Garik Karapetyan Becomes Champion; Turkish Athlete Attempts to Cover Our Flag

Albania is hosting the European Weightlifting Championship for under-20 athletes.

The double world champion among youths, Garik Karapetyan, has been declared the champion in the 96 kg weight class with a total lift of 367 kg, also securing two additional gold medals in separate events.

Emre Ozturk from Turkey claimed the second place but stood out during the award ceremony for unprofessional behavior. He attempted to cover the Armenian flag with his country's flag and, after Armenia's national anthem, refused to shake Karapetyan's hand, receiving a fitting response in return. The situation was defused through the efforts of Armenian coaches and organizers.
