US Threatens Turkish Businesses with Sanctions for Working with Russia

A US government delegation that visited Turkey recently warned Turkish entrepreneurs about the risks of collaborating with Russia. According to the Dünya newspaper, which cited its sources in Ankara, the West is dissatisfied with the "acceleration of trade with Russia through Turkey."

The American delegation, which met with business leaders, cautioned that "a range of restrictions could be imposed on those who work with companies that have 75 percent Russian capital," the newspaper reported.

Turkey's decision to allow parallel imports to Russia since March has transformed the country into a "transit hub." Numerous companies from Russia have opened their representative offices there.

According to Turkey's statistical institute, exports to Russia increased by 43% from January to September.
