TikTok to Ban Children from Live Streaming
TikTok is set to raise the minimum age for live streaming from 16 to 18 starting next month. An investigation by BBC News has uncovered hundreds of pages that have gone live from Syrian refugee camps, where children have been soliciting donations.
According to BBC, some of the refugees received up to $1,000 (£900) per hour, but when they withdrew the cash, TikTok took up to 70% of it.
In the future, only adults will be able to send "virtual gifts" or access monetization features, TikTok stated. In the "coming weeks," only adult users will be able to conduct live streams on the platform.
However, it remains unclear how TikTok will enforce these age restrictions.
